Go Back

SCMC takes learning beyond desks and chairs and enables the student to venture out for various field visits and educational tours. The places for these visits are planned at the beginning of every academic semester and the visits are scheduled to be interspersed between the academic days.

The Study Tours involve out-bound trips for more than a night. During the course of these tours, students are encouraged to imbibe skills and build camaraderie with their batch mates through shared learning.

The inaugural study tour for SCMC students is a trip to Asia Plateau at Panchgani where they get an opportunity to learn effective living and leadership in hands of seasoned trainers.

The Field Trips or shorter duration are staggered across the semesters and provide our students with a variety of real life experiences not just in media and communication, but other spheres such as art, culture, history, wildlife & environment, science and technology, agriculture, manufacturing and more.

At SCMC field trips are a key part of the media learning experience and our students, depending on their fields of specialization, go to film and recording studios, programme production locations, visit printing presses, TV and Radio stations, packaging and processing centres and rural markets, and go on photography tours.

The Centre organizes at least one such trip, often more, for each batch each semester.

This is a series of cultural evenings where artists deliver a lecture-cum-demonstration on an art form from Indian classical traditions — music, dance and others. It helps our students to not just connect to our heritage and history, but to understand how communication goes beyond the conventions of voice and text. Each raga in music, every movement and expression in dance, conveys meaning and speaks to the audience in a unique way. SCMC has invited practitioners of dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi; masters of instruments such as Flute, Jal Tarang, Mohan Veena, Sitar, Sarod and Violin and singers carrying the glorious traditions of Hindustani and Carnatic classical music.

It’s our annual intra-college cultural competition and festival organised by the Culture Club. Vaividhya, as its name indicates, celebrates the cultural diversity of SCMC. Students from three batches get a chance to get up on stage and compete in singing, dancing, theatrical and other events.

The East Side Story (TESS)

TESS is our annual film festival that is a place to watch great films, and make them. We offer budding talents from all around the country a platform to take part in a variety of competitions including filmmaking, scriptwriting and photography; learn from experts at workshops and seminars; and enjoy our screenings of world-class films. More on this year’s TESS here

SCMC’s inter-batch literary & debate contest, Maadhyam is the platform where our students showcase their prowess as communicators and speakers. As a celebration of words, wisdom and creativity, it hosts events such as Spoken Word Poetry, Just A Minute, Shipwreck, Pick your Teacher Debate and The Chain Reaction Debate.

Our annual theatre festival, Dionysia, is a platform for our students to conquer the stage. A festival which, like most others at SCMC, is organized entirely by our students, Dionysia shines a spotlight on our thespians, writers, directors and creative talents in some truly high quality productions.

In True Spirit

ITS is our annual sports event spread over three days during which our sports ground turns into a virtual gladiatorial arena. Competitions are held in major sporting events including Football, Cricket, Basketball, Handball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Swimming, Volleyball and Athletics.

A design and media festival which is jointly organised by SCMC and the Symbiosis Institute of Design, DZMA is open to college students from across India. Over five days, it hosts workshops and talks by professionals, competitions and performances exposing participants to industry trends and radical new approaches to art and design.

There are plenty of choices at SCMC for students to delve deeper into their areas of interest and experience shared learning while having fun outside the classrooms. The student-run clubs will give you a chance to get together with like-minded folks, pursue your hobbies, and explore a range of subjects.

Soft Skills : Along with academic inputs, students are introduced with certain life skills. The focus is mainly on basic communication skills, inter-personal relations, and team spirit. These sessions are supplementary to the Academic Improvement Program. The purpose is to improve students not only academically but to inculcate some of the life skills among them so that they can perform better in the next semester.

Trends in Technology : When one is working with technology, only technical skills are not important. These skills should be supplemented with other sub-skills. The industry is in search of personnel who beside having technical skills are also well versed with other trends in the industry. Experience with computer programs, requirement gathering information, public speaking , analyzing information and demonstrating effective time management are such important trend and students need to be aware of this. The distance learning courses through Coursera, Udemy and other agencies were very helpful in this view.
