Angkuran Dey: Winning at “Rethinking Economic Diplomacy”

Angkuran Dey, SCMC student from the Journalism batch of 2021, has secured first place in a national essay-writing competition organised by the Economics Department of Delhi University’s Aryabhatta College. Participants were provided a choice of three essay topics; and Angkuran chose to write on “Economic Diplomacy” based on his learnings about the topic during the third-year module on International Relations at SCMC.

His article, titled “Rethinking Indian Economic Diplomacy With the Purview of Global Economic Cooperation,” elaborates on India’s need to progress in its global cooperation – especially in the sectors of healthcare, IT, and the sciences. Angkuran emphasizes that India must utilize diplomacy to rebuild themselves economically, especially in the “Age of Acceleration” and in the aftermath of the devastating Covid pandemic.

In addition to winning the first prize at the competition, Angkuran’s essay has been published in the “Winning Articles” section of the third edition of “Viewpoint” magazine, issued in February 2021. “Viewpoint” is the annual magazine published by Aryabhatta College’s Economics Department.

As a keen Journalism student, Angkuran believes in seeking opportunities to write outside the scope of regular academic work. Grateful for the recognition, Angkuran is happy to have participated in the competition, as it aligns with his future plans to possibly gain a Master’s degree in International Affairs or Gender Studies.

SCMC congratulates Angkuran for his splendid achievement, and wishes him all the best for his future endeavours!
